The legend begins at a certain town that used to be under the rule of a powerful organization called Mugen. And in the same vein as that of the domineering organization are the legendary Amamiya Brothers. After Mugen and the Amamiya brothers go head-to-head against each other, Mugen disbands while the Amamiya brothers disappear. In the aftermath of the chaos, G-S.W.O.R.D emerges.
The town splits into five districts and the five gangs from which S.W.O.R.D is named after takes control of the area. "S" stands for Sannoh Rengokai (Hoodlum Squad), "W" for the White Rascals, "O" for Oya Kohkoh (Oya High),"R" for the Rude Boys and "D" for Daruma Ikka. If these five teams protect the city, the balance of S.W.O.R.D. will be kept.
Shaking up the peace and harmony is Iemura Group, one of the cities' most feared organizations.Their members deal with drugs, guns, money, and other illegal things. To profit even more, they set their eyes on the land where the five districts stand. To make matters worse, Kohaku , who thinks of nothing but get revenge for his friend, gets himself involved with another deadly gang. The Mighty Warriors is slowly gaining power in the coastal region. To expand their resources and influence, they soon agree to work with Mr. Lee, the son of the Korean mob leader of a group called Chanson.

HiGH & LOW The Story of S.W.O.R.D., the first season of the television series in the franchise, is about a town that was once dominated by Mugen. Mugen's grip on the town ended after the legendary Amamiya Brothers refused to submit to their will. It eventually splits into 5 districts dominated by the gangs of S.W.O.R.D: Sannoh Rengokai, White Rascals, Oya Kohkoh, Rude Boys and Daruma Ikka. The five gangs that comprise S.W.O.R.D. fight for their pride and glory, to protect their district.
